Destul de cunoscut ca planta de camera, cercelusul poate fi folosit tot asa de bine si ca planta de balcon. Exemplarele mari, arborescente pot fi asezate la intrare pe bratele scarilor sau la colturile teraselor. Locurile cele mai potrivite sunt cele cu limina multa, dar ferite de razele solare directe.
Este intalnit incepand din America de Sud si pana in Noua Zeelanda, unde vegeteaza in padurile montane din regiunile ploioase.
Cercelusul creste bine in locurile umede, cu temperatura de 12-16 grade Celsius si cu mult aer. vara trebuie stropit pe frunze, udat mai abundent si ingrasat, aternand ingrasamintele minerale complexe usor acide cu ingrasamintele organice. Se cultiva in pamanturi grase, usor acide, formate din mranita (2 parti), pamant de frunze (1 parte), nisip si putina turba acida.
este bine ca iarna, plantele sa stea in repaus. In acest scop, toamna se duc cu ghivecele sau laditele incare au fost plantate, in incaperi reci (5-10 grade Celsius), in locuri luminoase sau chiar in pivnite (in acest caz pierzandu-si frunzele, ceea ce nu e prea rau pentru plante, deoarece repausul este mai profund). Se uda foarte rar. In februarie-martie plantele se aduc din nou la caldura, se uda si se pun aproape de geam. Se schimba la ghivece nu prea mari, curatind-se bine radacinile si inlocuind pamantul. Cand incep sa porneasca mugurii, lastarii se taie scurt pentru a obtine tufe bogate. Lastarii soiurilor cu ramuri pletoase nu trebuie taiati.
Inmultirea prin butasi poate fi facuta in anotimpurile mai calde, preferabil insa in primavara. Butasii se inradacineaza la 15-18 grade Celsius si se uda deseori pe frunze. Cand au format radacini se planteaza in ghivece mici in pamant usor. Cercelusul isi pierde usor florile si frunzele la intuneric si la trecerea brusca de afara in interiorul apartamentelor. De aceea este necesar ca plantele sa se obisnuiasca in prealabil cu noile conditii.
In apartamente sau caplante de balcon, pot fi cultivate mai multe specii, cea mai indicata fiind Fuchsia hybrida, care are numeroase soiuri cu crestere dreapta, verticala sau cu tulpini pletoase, cu flori simple sau involte si intr-o mare gama de culori.
Fuchsia fulgens poate fi si ea folosita fiind destul de decorativa prin florile rosii-corai, dar este mai putin robusta decat specia precedenta.
