Originar din Insula Madeira (S. pseudocapiscum L.), sudul Braziliei si Uruguay (S. capsicastrum Link.), inrudit cu tomatele si cartoful, este de un mare efect decorativ prin fructele lui rotunde, rosii sau galbene(otravitoare).
Foarte rustic in apartament, solanum are nevoie de multa lumina si soare,aerisire abundenta si incaperi cu temperaturi mai scazute (de 8-12 grade Celsius). La lumina insuficienta si temperaturi prea ridicate, se alungeste si se etioleaza (ingalbeneste).
Mentinerea minunatei lui podoabe, micile fructe colorate viu, va fi de lunga durata intr-un loc mai putin incalzit.
Schimbarea la ghivece se face primavara, cand, pentru a obtine plante mai stufoase, le vom scurta si lastarii.
In timpul verii, vom aseza plantele in aer liber, pe balcon, in gradina sau in fata ferestrei si le vom uda abundent.
Tot in aceeasta perioada ii vom aplica saptamanal ingrasaminte suplimentare 1-2 la mie.
Inmultirea se face prin seminte, semanandu-se in primavara sau prin butasi (tije de 8-10 cm lungime) inradacinati intr-un amestec de pamant nisipos,
usor umed.
Pentru ca tinerele plante sa aiba o crestere cat mai ramificata, ele se vor tunde in cateva randuri.
